Tales From The Tryst

I did a photoshoot for XS and TRYST nightclubs for the halloween promo/flyer. It was pretty last minute request and I wasn’t completely informed of how this would turn out, so i just found out what was going on in each scene and lit and shot them appropriately. It was last minute but the photos worked out, and I had a blast, if I were to do it again, I would have done a few things differently, but overall had a great time working with everyone! The flyers were not done by me, once the photos are shot its usually up to the art director/graphic designer for the final product, which the photographer has little to zero input 90% of the time 100% of the time.

This is my edit, of a similar photo used in the Tryst flyer.

Above photo is just cleaned up of small imperfections, but the tones were pretty much straight out of camera. This was the first time i got to use my new Paul C. Buff 86″ PLM v2 Reflector.

This was definitely one of my favorite shots….its just a cool shot even though we had some “wing failure”.

The theme from both XS and TRYST was awesome. Thanks to Danny Mahoney for bringing me in on this shoot. Had a blast!! check out XS Blog here!

and we took a bunch on white as well.

These can be found all around Town Square.

Tonight is Tales from The Tryst, perfect time for the blog post (I thought). Have a safe Halloween everyone!!!

So, I did a photoshoot about a week ago with a local friend/model Mariel Mendoza. It went smoother than expected, she’s a blast to work with and I’m pretty happy with the outcome! I really don’t have a ton of portrait work in my portfolio, but I’m definitely ready to start doing this more. This was at a location I’ve wanted to shoot at for about half a year now. It was a last minute “guerrilla” type shoot. I almost could have bet money we would have gotten kicked off the property, but I guess we got lucky!!

Thanks to Danny Szeto for helping me out with the shoot, and lugging all my gear around since my multicart rf12 model blew up the sunday before. Since then, the r12 has been replaced with the no-flat r10nf model. I must say I’m a huge fan, and only recommend the “no-flat” version of these carts since the regular model blew up on its first use. The r10nf front casters also have brakes, which is what sold me the 2nd time around.

Most of these are shot with a white-lightning x1600 with a large gridded softbox or gridded beauty dish as a main and a bare sb800 or sb80dx as a rim. I’m liking the grids a lot, you get so much more control, I’m definitely excited for future shoots! I really need to start setting more of these up. I really like the look/feel of this set!!

Work has been killer!! (in a good way), pool season is about to start, so that means we’ll be even more busier!! hmm….I really hate wearing shorts..hmm…anyways! thats it for now, thanks for following and check back more!

NONSTOP!

HAH!! This was a really cool last minute shoot with OLD friends Justin and Aries. We used to jam in my backyard back in 1999? (NSB!) OLD SCHOOL.

Anyways, I ran into both of them at the gym I go to a few months back, and set this up 4pm on a Sunday! This was a test shoot, I knew what kind of light I wanted, I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t too harsh. A large photoflex softbox and 46″ silver umbrella were used in a cross-light setup. Hopefully we’ll set up a proper shoot at a better location with more of the old homies!

Unfortunately, my White-lightning X1600 was being a POS, so I had to use an X800 and alien bee B1600. The WLX1600 is out for repair, hopefully it won’t cost too much!! I already miss it dearly!

Most of these shots were manual focused, it was dark, no ambient light, just a spot lamp from the building we were at. I can’t wait to do the real shoot later hopefully this month. All of our schedules are out of control lately. Just posting an update!!
