New Years Eve!!

December 31, 2010 Leave a comment

NYE is already here!! It felt like last week was Thanksgiving!! I can’t wait for 2011 already, I’ve got some plans!! The lower NYE flyer was another promo shoot that I did a few months back. A few flyers throughout Manufactured Superstars’ residency should be my photos as well, not that one however. The Manufactured Superstars photoshoot that I did was pretty epic I must say. Good things to come in 2011!!

Both TRYST and XS flyers were photos of mine as well, the TRYST flyer was later replaced with an ESTELLE flyer since she’ll be performing there tomorrow night (NYE!!!). Thanks again to Danny Mahoney over at XS for helping out with the shoot, some of the shots were his, some were mine, the lighting was done by me, NBD.

Heres a side profile shot that I took some time to edit. The original was pretty different, I’m glad I invested in that WACOM tablet! After all this madness is over I think a vacation is long overdue. I need to make an appointment with my sports therapist ASAP, and get my gyukaku/boiling crab fix!!

Not my favorite photo from the set, but definitely fitting for NYE and the giant blue Andy Warhol edition Dom P!!
On another note, I’m very thankful for my family and friends. I have the greatest family, and the best nephew! Everyone who knows me knows that I keep everything pretty close knit! I’ve grown close to new friends this year and closer to older ones, finding people you can trust and rely on in Las Vegas is pretty far and few between nowadays. Thank you everyone for a great year! 2010 went by a little fast, I’m still in shock its already over! See you guys’ next year, and please don’t drink and drive! Have a wonderful and safe New Year!! I’ll be at XS on the 1st shooting Manufactured Superstars, and Afrojack on Monday!!

Help-Portrait 2010

December 26, 2010 Leave a comment

Dec 4th was the Las Vegas second annual Help-Portrait event at the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center. The group shot above was remote triggered via Al Powers, @PowersImagery who pretty much ran the event this year. Here is a link to last years post for those that don’t remember. Click!

I wanted to give out a big Thank You to all the hair and make-up artists that helped out again this year, Justin Wray for supplying the step-and-repeat backdrop, TRYST nightclub for letting us use their red carpet, and everyone that came out to support the event!

It was nice going out there again, weather was great, and even saw some familiar faces from the previous year!

I like to check out what other communities are doing, some places go to senior citizen homes, hospitals, special education centers, and some people seem to do it independently as well! Its quite unreal how big this became.

If anyone wants more info or wants to know how to help out, this is a WORLD-WIDE event! This is happening once a year in your community! HELP PORTRAIT WEBSITE

XS and Tryst Toy Drive

December 9, 2010 Leave a comment

I had the opportunity to shoot this amazing event yesterday. It was XS and Tryst nightclubs’ 3rd annual toy drive with 98.5 KLUC, and donated a huge $106,297 in toys to HELP of Southern Nevada.

It was great seeing everyone so enthused and in the giving spirit! People were filling up their carts so fast!!

Everyone there was having a great time! Choosing things they felt kids would appreciate.

This was pretty much how they left Walmart’s Toy section when they were done with it!
They filled up 2 semi’s full of toys from the local Walmart, clearing out most toys and bikes in the whole store and even had a firetruck+police escorts lead the way to the drop off site.

The unloading turned into a human-conveyor belt style system

The bike collection was MASSIVE!! I don’t think one kid will be bike-less this holiday season!

The amount of toys was overwhelming!

The receipt was 100ft long! Which was basically both semi’s back to back in length!! I definitely had fun covering this event, and had a blast overall. Nothing better than being surrounded by good friends and good company supporting a great cause!!

Tales From The Tryst

I did a photoshoot for XS and TRYST nightclubs for the halloween promo/flyer. It was pretty last minute request and I wasn’t completely informed of how this would turn out, so i just found out what was going on in each scene and lit and shot them appropriately. It was last minute but the photos worked out, and I had a blast, if I were to do it again, I would have done a few things differently, but overall had a great time working with everyone! The flyers were not done by me, once the photos are shot its usually up to the art director/graphic designer for the final product, which the photographer has little to zero input 90% of the time 100% of the time.

This is my edit, of a similar photo used in the Tryst flyer.

Above photo is just cleaned up of small imperfections, but the tones were pretty much straight out of camera. This was the first time i got to use my new Paul C. Buff 86″ PLM v2 Reflector.

This was definitely one of my favorite shots….its just a cool shot even though we had some “wing failure”.

The theme from both XS and TRYST was awesome. Thanks to Danny Mahoney for bringing me in on this shoot. Had a blast!! check out XS Blog here!

and we took a bunch on white as well.

These can be found all around Town Square.

Tonight is Tales from The Tryst, perfect time for the blog post (I thought). Have a safe Halloween everyone!!!

Help_LV Gallery

Back in December, Al Powers and I participated in a world-wide charity event called Help-Portrait. I received an email Sunday morning stating there would be a gallery viewing on Monday the 22nd. I’m so lucky I had the time off to go and see what was happening. I had no idea they were going to be doing this, and with the help of a few sponsors, this was all possible! Sorry about the image quality, these were all from my point and shoot so bear with me.

That’s a list of the sponsors that made it all possible, Brett Wesley was where the Gallery exhibit was held, Cashman Photo did the prints/scrap-books, cup cakery supplied tasty treats for everyone, and of course help-portrait which includes a large amount of make-up artists/hair stylists/photographers, and a great staff who either helped organize everything or just wanted to help out period!

The prints came out great, They also printed to the sensor size, so no cropping was needed which was impressive. There was also a mosiac that was made from images we took that day, I wonder what software does this, I’d be interested in the future.

This picture below is of Marcus, the print turned out great! What’s even cooler is that they were giving the pictures of the kids to them after the event! The following image is from the scrapbook, three of my images on that page plus a photo of me as well!

It was really nice to actually see some of the kids there as well. Heres a picture of some of the kids and organizers for this event together.

These next two photos made it all worth-while for me. This was the letter in the scrap-book and the photo I printed and framed for Andrew in December. I can’t explain how much this means to me, but I’m ecstatic I was able to give a gift to every teen I photographed that might have had some kind of impact on their life.

Hopefully we can do this again soon. Its such a great overall-feeling, I’d suggest this to everyone. Hopefully we can step it up a notch every year, usually the first year is pretty rocky, which at times it was, but i’m very confident when I say, it can only get better from here!!
